  • Solid flow operations are commonly encountered in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. Uniform mixing of solids of different sizes and physical attributes is critical for formulation development in the pharmaceutical industry. Similarly, pigment manufacturing also involves solid mixing as a critical step in maintaining critical quality attributes of the final product.

The ease or difficulty of handling solid flow operations depends on the properties of the solids such as the particle size, shape, and density, etc. The difference in the physical properties of the solids can present several challenges in operations such as mixing, transport or unloading.

In this webinar, the different solid properties that can affect the flow dynamics will be discussed. The impact of the property variations on the efficiency of industrial operations will be understood using simple examples. Different options to overcome the challenges in the solid flow operations will be reviewed. Finally, the use of Discrete Element Modeling (DEM) simulation tool, along with its application to industrial scale problem, will be discussed.
