Impeller Placement Design for New Buffer & Media Vessels
Abstract: Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulations were conducted in MixIT and used in the design of Media and Buffer Preparation vessels at a new manufacturing suite. By studying the effects of different impeller configurations prior to small scale EFD studies and purchasing, our team was able to eliminate a handful of risk. Our approach was to analyze the worst-case Buffer and Media solutions in each of the tanks at varying configurations and operating conditions to get a gauge on what worked best to prove out in small scale EFDs. The upfront nature of the CFD work allowed our team to dictate vendor recommendations and designs to best fit the requirements for our mixing processes.
